College Bowls!

Ah. The best time of the college football season. Bowl weeks. This year there are 34 bowls. I will be commenting on like about maybe five of them. First off, what is a bowl? Its a final game of the year for teams in Division 1 with good enough records to qualify. Essentially, a championship. What makes a team bowl eligible? A few things. First off, a good record. It has to be at least above .500. Then, the conference a team is from. Certain conferences are harder than others. For example, the PAC 10 is harder than the ACC. What else? strength of schedule. Meaning, teams with harder schedules will earn better favor for winning. So. A team with a 7-5 record and 4 wins against top 25 opponents would be bowl eligible. Wait a minute. That happens to be the record of my favorite team! the Maryland Terrapins!

Which leads me to my first bowl review. The Humanitarian bowl. My terps get to take on the nevada wolfpack. Both teams finished the season with a 7-5 record, however i feel confident with my terps. This bowl is a competition between teams from the ACC and WAC conferences. The ACC is 3-2 in the previous bowls. However. More importantly the terps have an excellent run game (in my opinion) led by Da'rel Scott and the all ACC center Edwin Williams. I have a feeling the terps will pull this one out. Finishing up the season with a loss to B.C., the terps have never lost consecutive games this season. The terps have come off a bowl win last year while the wolfpack lost to the hurricanes 21-20. These two teams have never met. A win for maryland. (my opinion is a little biased) 21-17

The next bowl i will review happens to be the national championship BCS title game. Oh. The big game. The Florida Gators led by Tim Tebow, the heisman trophy winner of the 07 season, play the Oklahoma Sooners led by Sam Bradford, the QB projected to win this years heisman. Personally, I am not really going to enjoy this game. I am not a fan of florida at all! But. i guess ill just tell you what i think. First off, this game will be about offense. Two of the top quarterbacks square off in the national championship. Both teams finished the season with 12-1 records. The gators finished their season rather impressively with a win against the former undefeated Alabama crimson tide for the SEC championship. But, the Sooners finished their season with big wins against Texas Tech and OSU and 702 total points, a new record. They were in a three way tie for first place, and according to BCS rules, they earned the championship spot. Both quarterbacks have accumulated over 4000 yards each. This will be an exciting game. Im going Oklahoma in a high score battle.

I guess ill make some more posts tomorrow or something. I just happen to be out of time. Oh well. Thanks
